ultimate frisbee

Ultimate frisbee was the first club I ever joined, and the one I stuck with and returned to after two pandemic years. The first practice I ever went to, I went solo, which is always a nerve-racking endeavor, and got lost on the way to the field. I knew how to throw a backhand, but other than that had never really played the sport. Nervous as I was, I was struck by the positive, welcoming energy of the team — it is a unique community that inspires me still. My time with Big Bang, the women's B-team (or as I call it, the fun team), has been wonderful, the only club to draw me back post-pandemic. Going to frisbee practice started off as a way to get moving and blow off steam, and ended up being a confidence boost and lesson in community.

fun facts from my time on Big Bang!

My position: Cutter! But I like to handle when given the opportunity.

My favorite throw: Getting a bump from the handler and hucking a backhand into the end zone like nobody's business.

My favorite part of the Ultimate community: Everyone is incredibly friendly and we all are here to have fun! At the end of tournament games, both teams will come together in a spirit circle to congratulate each other, pick an MVP on the other team, and sometimes have a creative spirit game prepared for the group to play.

My favorite frisbee memory: For some tournaments, we pick a theme and everyone on the team plays in costume. At our last O-Fest tournament, we dressed up as frat boys and only referred to each other as "Chad" the whole tournament.
